The Marvels: A Marvelous Success or Failure?

Looking for a recommendation and review of The Marvels? Or just want to know what MCU projects you should check out before watching the movie? Maybe you just want to know how this one stacks up with other MCU projects? Check out our nonspoiler and spoiler reviews of The Marvels now!

NONSPOILER REVIEW

Summary:

  • Check out Ms. Marvel if you haven't around for some context on Kamala Kahn and her family and maybe watch Captain Marvel again for a refresher, but no other MCU projects needed to understand this movie.

  • The action sequences are fun, the main characters all have a good chemistry, and the pacing keeps the movie going to distract from some of the logic gaps in the plot.

RECOMMENDATION: WAIT UNTIL IT HITS STREAMING

SPOILER REVIEW

Summary:

  • Clearly let the moments lead the plot instad of the plot lead to the moments.

  • The character chemistry was great, but doesn't go very deep, despite teasing at a larger emotional depth between the characters.

  • The action sequences were all fun, especially the Khan House fight, but the gimmick of all the fights might get boring for some by the end.

  • The villain was on the weaker side in terms of depth and performance, terraforming plots are my new pet peeve of superhero movies.

  • The ending/post-credit scene are fun teases for future MCU projects, but at this point I think fans are sick of Marvel projects just teasing the next thing.

RATING: B. IT'S A FUN MOVIE IN SPITE OF THE FLAWS IN THE PLOT, BUT DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF REWATCHABILITY VALUE
